An impromptu escape to Portland.
Click. Read. Love. is coming to you on a Tuesday morning this week, because if there is anything I have embraced this summer, it is the complete abandonment of routine. This is not something I normally enjoy, but I’ve found myself craving, or at the very least making space for, a looser approach to daily life.
As a result I’ve spent mornings drinking coffee with a book, enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, shuttled snails across walkways along the coast, took a last minute trip to Portland (11/10 recommend), perused bookstores (and picked up new books I knew nothing about), hiked with friends, played tennis, made tons of meals at home, went for swims after dinner, and redecorated on a whim (without buying anything!).
I wouldn’t say this easygoing approach is permanent, though I am willing to embrace a bit more of it. I admit I’m starting to crave more of a routine. Perhaps the most meaningful thing I’ve taken away from this experiment is that there is room for both. Maybe a good life is found somewhere between spontaneity and structure.
This week’s edition is a bit longer as I’ve been collecting interesting links over the last few weeks. If it’s cut off, you can view it online by clicking the button below. I hope you enjoy 🥰 Stay tuned for my July/August Book Thread next week!
I’m working on a newsletter about the best Independent bookstores. Do you have a favorite? Please share what is, why you love it, and where it’s located here.
Editor’s note: It’s been a minute since I’ve done an AMA (ask me anything). Have a question for me? Submit it here and I’ll answer as many as I can in an upcoming newsletter.
